Vermont Journey-Fall 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 11:56 pm

Just got back from a lovely few days in splendid Vermont! The Fall foliage colors were, as usual, spellbinding and breathtaking. (See pic above). I got to explore several areas of the state I haven’t before, including a bit of what is known as the “Northeast Kingdom”. I also went to the Cabot cheese factory, and got to go on a tour and see how they make that luscious Cabot Monterey Jack and Cheddar, etc. They do a LOT of cleaning there, which made me feel good, somehow. (On a sidenote, I don’t eat many dairy products, myself…aside from a great amount of Stonyfield plain organic yogurt, to which I add my own fruit. Whoa, look at me with the product endorsements!). I was also fortunate enough to find out on the morning I was leaving that Alison Bechdel, creator of Dykes to Watch Out For, was having an art show at a gallery in downtown Burlington. So, I postponed my leaving for a couple of hours and got to check out her art firsthand. Definitely glad I went! She’s done a series of life-size figures, some in collaboration with Phranc, (who, like Alison, is a lesbian icon in her own right, and is now creating cardboard clothing which suited some of Aliscon’s large cut-out figures). And then, there were some of Alison’s Dykes to Watch Out For originals to view, as well as some original pages from her new graphic novel Fun Home, (which I highly recommend, it is stunningly good!). I also stopped in Arlington, the former hometown of one of my favorite artists, Norman Rockwell. Gosh, there’s so much great art and scenery and good vibes in the air in Vermont. I can’t wait to go back. When am I moving there? Well, that remains to be seen. But in the meantime, here’s another pic, (I’ll also post some more in the coming days). This one doesn’t show off the Fall colors, but it has a sorta’ whackiness that I like! Also, if you happen to live in Vermont, or have visited there and have some stories you’d like to share, please post your comments here by clicking the “Comments” link below. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Green Mountain state!
